MAKEOPTS=-j1 emerge --deep --update world
does it well but with my default it warns about directory bin-x86_64 non
existance.

The HW is a bi-dual-opteron with 6Gb RAM so I have -j5 as suggested

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
MAKEOPTS=-j5 emerge --deep --update world

Actual Results:  
Emerge stops after make error

Please, post the actual errors here...

works here at least once.

Uhm. I'm sure I got that error but now I'm not able to reproduce :-(

Well, that's pretty normal w/ parallel-make bugs...
