I am in the middle of an emerge -eav world after a gcc and system update and
this is blocking my completion.  I searched for ways to resolve this but came
up empty.

I just switched to an amd64 system and the error is still there exactly as
reported above.

True, 0.9.0-r1 which is the current stable is old and crippled whereas
0.95.0-r2 is fine.
