I ran bsd-games under a screen session and backgammon gives a segmentation fault before drawing the board.
Making the window size at least 25 columns (24 for the program, 1 for the bottom line of screen) fixes the problem, but it should exit gracefully.
A fix is in portage. Thanks for report
