(Oh also it would be nice to add thunar plugins.. but that should be another
bug report..)

proposed new eclass

The new ebuilds should point to http://www.xfce.org/archive/xfce-4.3.99.1/src/
so the existing eclass/xfce44.eclass needs to be updated.

I've added an $XFCE_RC_VERSION and $THUNAR_RC_VERSION. 

As noted by the XFCE folks, the transition from 4.2 beta 1 to 4.2 RC 1 has
included a variety of bug fixes and feature enhancements.

Please revise the eclass and add the ebuilds to the portage tree. Thanks!

xfce 4.4 RC2 (4.3.99.2) is out.

I really don't understand why beta1/2 is inside the portage-tree and RC1/2 is
not.
Perhaps putting both (beta and RC) into the XFCE-Overlay would be fine?
Otherwise both should be available inside the official tree IMHO.

The only ugly thing with these ebuild currently is XFCE(_FOO)?_VERSION. Perhaps
someone could think of a nicer way to do this?

Session Manager (xfce4-session)

    * Add support for HAL to shutdown/reboot the computer. Must be enabled
explicitly using --with-shutdown-style=hal to configure (Bug #2046). 

there is no "hal" USE flag in xfce4-session,though.

Desktop Manager (xfdesktop)

    * Use d-bus bindings directly for all interaction with d-bus to avoid
xfdesktop's UI freezing while waiting for responses. d-bus is now required at
compile time for file icons

However, dbus is not listed among the requirements of xfdesktop.

Rubberband Selection

With the addition of rubberband selection to GtkTreeView in GTK+ 2.10 it is
finally possible to use rubberband selection in the Detailed List View. 

I don't get it. Does it mean that thunar requires GTK+ 2.10,or that it takes
advantage from it but it's not required, and/or that thunar needs to be
recompiled to take advantage from a GTK+ upgrade?

This is just a bump, nothing official...so, please don't expect them to be
complete. If I have enough spare time I might fix this...

AFAIK GTK+ 2.10 is optional (GTK+ 2.8 here and thunar works). I don't know
whether Thunar needs to be recompiled.

thunar doesn't require gtk-doc to run correctly. also orbit is a dependency
only required when using the gnome-thumbnailer.

Didn't check the xfce-extra stuff for gtk-doc depandancies, but didn't show up
in my emerge -avuDN xfce4.

Simple line to create all digest in portage overlay (/usr/local/portage) after
untaring and downloading new ebuild version (thunar, xfce-panel, libxfcegui4):
# cd /usr/local/portage
# tar tjf xfce-4.4_rc2.tar.bz2 |grep ebuild |xargs -I{} ebuild {} digest
