Description Kris Kersey (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-18 08:25:28 UTC
So that all Gentoo users can get up to speed with the new x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers ebuild, I would like to mark it stable on both platforms.

Please post any objections here. I plan on doing this in one week depending on feedback.

Soon after this I also plan on removing the old media-video/nvidia-(glx/kernel) ebuilds.

I am using nvidia-drivers-1.0.8762-r1 on x86 with xorg-x11-7.0-r1 and 2.6.16-gentoo-r13 without any problem.

I'd suggest hard-masking the old ebuild series for a while before removing it completely. That way, if any users that haven't read this bug sync and suddenly find the new system doesn't work for them, they can still unmask the old (working) version until the problem's fixed.

uhm, which version do you want stable?
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-21 12:18:33 UTC
-r1, please...

As for masking the old ones, the plan is to do package moves, instead. Anyone who hasn't updated will end up switched automatically. The older packages are crusty and broken in many ways, so letting users remain on them isn't in anyone's best interest.
