I could have this completely wrong (which has happened mary times before).
The ebuild for media-video/transcode-1.0.2-r2 shows media-libs/libexif as a
required dependency via the RDEPEND variable.
I can find nothing either in the documentation or the source code to indicate
this.
If transcode does in fact not need this package (and I don't even see how it
could even use it), then I request the removal of this dependency from the
ebuild.
Well, it's been added b/c someone said it's needed (Bug 43907). It doesn't link
against it at all here, I've checked all the binaries.
