Please stable spamass-milter-0.3.1-r1, it's kind of required for SA 3.1.1+,
snip from the ChangeLog:
 * Ensure wrapped headers always use LF (fix for spamassassin 3.1.1)

I know it hasn't been 30 days but really the improved initscript in -r1 is
worth it (ran as root before and the pidfile logic was b0rky).
Feel free to clean up the old ones once you're done.
