Kino builds and runs fine without esound, so the media-sound/esound dependency is not required.
Looking at the ebuild, I've also noticed this: <snip> # Will use ALSA if alsa-lib>=1.0.9, but I haven't added a USE flag # to turn this off explicitly as if you don't want it, don't install it! </snip> Such automagic deps most certainly suck, 'don't install it' is not an acceptable solution.
