Fixed in portage. Please sync and test in ~2 hours.

Unmask gnome-python gnome-python-extras and gnome-python-desktop and that
should fix the dep issue. If there is another issue, open a new bug.

Jakub, I don't think my bug is a dupe. In this bug, and every other bug marked
as a dupe of this bug, we have:

 checking for gnomeapplet module... no

In the one I filed we have:

 checking for gnomeapplet module... X11 connection rejected because of wrong
authentication.
no

Are you sure this is the same issue?

did you run python-updater while migrating from python 2.4 to 2.5 ? Did you try
rebuilding any of the gnome-python packages ?

------- Comment #20 From debloxxx@googlemail.com 2008-08-04 16:31:32 0000 -------
while i playing with the bug i noticed that python 2.5 couldn't find the
gtk/pygtk modules. i re-merged pygtk and noticed some problems to set some
links (pygtk.py and pygtk.pth) in the /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages
directory.
i set links from python 2.4 /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pygtk.py and
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pygtk.pth in /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages.
after this some problem occurred with gobject and cairo for python (some module
dependencies) and i re-merged pygobject and pycairo then emerge runs the normal
way.

------- Comment #21 From nixscripter 2008-09-04 03:10:27 0000 -------
Same thing. Does this have to do with the fact that there is now a subdirectory
called gtk-2.0 inside the site-packages directory? Nothing in here can be found
because it's not in sys.path

No. This is where the modules have been for a while. Please post emerge --info.

Have you run python-updater and/or tried re-emerging gnome-python and
gnome-python-desktop?

------- Comment #23 From Johannes Swoboda 2009-03-14 19:20:31 0000 -------
I've got the same problem.
when I reran python-updater, I saw two warnings
 * Messages for package dev-python/pygtk-2.12.1-r2:
 * Unable to establish /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pygtk.py symlink
 * Unable to establish /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pygtk.pth symlink
I think they were already there, but as I don't know anything about python, I
ignored them. The two referred files aren't the there on my box,
I have to add that the installation is quite fresh and I didn't do anything
with the python-stuff manually.
debloxxx, what exactly did you do? did you just set symlinks like these
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pygtk.py
=> symlink to/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pygtk.pth symlink
=> symlink to/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages
?
But if it were like that, it would actually mean that the deskbar-applet
depends on the old python..?

I also reemerged dev-python/gnome-python, dev-python/gnome-python-desktop and
dev-python/gnome-python-extras (2.19.1-r1@07/29/08)

I didn't take care, of course I remerged the latest version of
dev-python/gnome-python-extras.When I talked about the two warnings that "were
already there", I wanted to say that there were already there when I ran
python-updater some days ago, but as I don't really know python, I ignored
them.
