Description Chris Bainbridge (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-19 06:46:29 UTC
There is a bug in fglrx (although ATI claim it isn't a bug, but a feature!) that causes segmentation faults and random kernel crashes when UseFastTLS in xorg.conf isn't equal to 2.

There is a thread at http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/pipermail/linux-thinkpad/2006-March/032829.html discussing the issue and it is mentioned at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2976364.html#2976364 and in the ATI docs http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/readme0328.txt

Can someone please add an einfo to the ati-driver ebuilds noting that UseFastTLS should be set to 2 in xorg.conf, otherwise unexplained and undebuggable application and kernel crashes will occur.

Added warning to latest (8.23.7) ebuild.
