geos fails to compile with gcc 4.1 i also tried the version bump i noticed
in bug 120479 it fails also
this patch attached is agianst it but should also apply to 2.1 series
the errors looked to be very close if not the exact same thing

I have just added the bumped version to portage and applied this patch. Thanks
