when using mrtg 2.9.21 (latest in portage) with perl-5.8.0-r6:

Can't locate package $VERSION for @MRTG_lib::ISA at /usr/bin/mrtg line 59
	main::BEGIN() called at /usr/bin/../lib/mrtg2/MRTG_lib.pm line 59
	eval {...} called at /usr/bin/../lib/mrtg2/MRTG_lib.pm line 59


mrtg 2.9.22 fixed this problem; from

  there, and perl 5.8 complains

latest stable mrtg is 2.9.25 available at:

a newer version of mrtg needs to be added to portage.

I have successfully built, installed, and tested mrtg using the attached
ebuild.  This resolves the author's complaints.

It appears to emerge just fine, now in portage. Curious why you didn't approach
this yourself since you are a dev (and I have nothing to do with mrtg). Anywho,
it's in there.

re comment #3: so far i've been working only on ppc documentation. just now
getting into ebuilds. i didn't feel comfortable enough yet to make that big of a
change to an ebuild.
