as of mesa 5.0 there is a couple of changes to glut
the version of glut itself is the same
the ebuild just needs the MESA_VER in the ebuild set to 5.0
i copied the ebuild over to -r3 and tested it on my system it works fine

Hi .. they did bump the version (3.7.1), so I added glut-3.7.1.ebuild some time
back.  Sorry, I did mention this bug in ChangLog, but forgot to update this.
