Apparently, bsetroot has been renamed to (or replaced by) fbsetroot in fluxbox 0.9.14. Some of the core fluxbox styles (BlueNight in particular) still try to call bsetroot, which of course fails and leaves you with a black background. Changing the style to use fbsetroot fixes the problem. Of course, a symlink for bsetroot would probably work equally well (and be quicker).
Just adding a me-too. Its a critical problem but an annoying one :\
I'm waiting to see whether any other issues crop up before I do a -r1...
