<thetext>Please add the pmount ebuild #69575 to portage and add it at dependency to
kdebase-kioslaves.
Without pmount the mount behaviour of the media:/ ioslave does not work correctly.

More information about pmount and the media:/ ioslave can be found at http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=DBUS.

You can then close my initial bug report #86129.

            <thetext>As reported also in http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102086,
pmount is not a requirement (and hal is compiled with --enable-fstab-sync by default in Gentoo).

The media ioslave should not crash without it, there are no reasons to add pmount as a dependency.</thetext>

<thetext>Shouldn't pmount be a dependency of hal, then?
If not, should we add it as a dependency of kdebase-kioslaves now, or when the ioslave will support hal-0.5.x (i.e. for kde-3.5)?

<thetext>pmount is not a depend of HAL. pmount needs hal installed to be installed.
pmount USES hal, not the other way around.</thetext>

<thetext>Nobody gave a reason for closing this report and it is still being asked about
in #-desktop. In the hal-0.5.x releases(which kde 3.5 uses I'm assuming), the
fstab-sync option has been removed. Right now pmount is the method being used
for automounting via hal and should be listed as a dep under hal support. </thetext>

<thetext>I don't see any reason not to add pmount as a dep personally, as this is
effectively the only way to get automatic mounting now. It also works well with
both 3.4.3 and 3.5.0. However it would have blocked the stabilisation of 3.4.3,
and it is not essential for KDE to operate with hal.

Does anyone have any timelines on pmount and new hal stabilisation? </thetext>
