<thetext>ntlmaps is a local proxy server able to authenticate via samba protocol with MsProxy server, thus permitting internet access.
This could be particularly useful during livecd installation, because, no matter what you set in *proxy env vars, MsProxy servers don't accept standard digest auth, but only NTML (samba) passwd protocol exchange.
For this ebuild to be included in install cds, proper arch unmasking is required.
ntlmaps depends (FWIK) only on python sockets: all samba routines are rewritten in python for maximum portability</thetext>

<thetext>Some of those archs on there don't even have install CDs... No way we're fitting python on a netboot image. Rewrite it in portable bash/ash and there might be a chance.</thetext>

<thetext>The package doesn't require samba or use samba. NTLM is NT Authentication, not samba authentication, though it is also used for the SMB and CIFS protocols.

Anyway, satya, are there any arches you can test for yourself? You should be able to mark stable on those arches.

ciaranm, if you know of an arch above that could not possibly use this, could you please comment to such and remove it from the CC. Remember that this is a test request for the package, and even though satya mentioned the LiveCD, it could be used on any Gentoo machine behind a MS Proxy Server, so it would apply to any arch with networking support and python.</thetext>

<thetext>Chris (comment #2): no, sorry. I can test only x86 at now... :-(
Jochen (comment #3): it's not a glsa. You can test it, behind a MsProxy server, editing /etc/conf.d/ntlmaps.cfg and instructing your browser to use the local proxy at http://localhost:5865 (the default port configured in ntlmaps)</thetext>

<thetext>I really don't like to say 'no', but I have no more control over a MsProxy server.
Last time I used the package (some months ago) it worked flawlessly with x86 and amd64. Since it is, anyway, an interpreted script, it should work on every 'correct' :-) network lib installation of python.
I had no bugs open on this package, but I sincerly don't know how large the user base is... But there are only a couple of distro dependent bugs on sourceforge.

Hi guys.

I just wanted to tell you that it worked fine for me, but I couldn´t find the server.cfg file nowhere around my hd, so I had to manually extract it from the zipped file.

I guess it should be pretty easy to modify the ebuild to fix this thing

I'm willing to see this package unblocked, and it would be marvelous to include it in the livecd (along with REAL serial ATA support, but that´s another story)

(BTW, I´m new with this stuff, If i´m writing in thw wrong place please let me know)

<thetext>the conf file /etc/conf.d/ntlmaps.cfg wasn't installed due to a behaviour change in portage (ebuild fixed). BTW, this is also the reason for the depcache errors in comments #11 and #12: if a /etc/conf.d/ file has the same name as the service called, the conf file is sourced. Solution: changed the conf file name :-)

There are anyway 2 (really, one) problems with this package:
1) it isn't supported by all platforms. This could be arranged, provided:
2) a MsProxy server to do the tests. (see comment #5) I (the package first submitter) have no more access to any MsProxy servers :-(

So the development is halted, (hint :-) ) until we find a server to test it... </thetext>

<thetext>After some discussions with other members of the team, we feel it is not worth
the trouble of testing this package on MIPS. None of our users have requested
support for Microsoft Proxy Server for their installations, and it would be very
impractical including this on a netboot image. In addition, none of us here
have Microsoft Proxy Server available for testing, nor is it possible to obtain
a copy (legally) -- so this would be a big QA issue.

Such users would be better served downloading the distfiles manually that they
require, and setting up their own distfiles mirror locally for their MIPS box to
