Can you tell me what versions of autoconf and automake you have installed?
(emerge -vp autoconf automake, paste the output)

This seems to be a auto* error, which is weird, but not completely farfetched.</thetext>

            <thetext>okay, sorry for making you do a lot of the testing here, can you please upgrade to the latest autoconf, and then try &quot;emerge libao&quot; again?
