The standard summary is: 'pax' is the POSIX standard archive tool. It supports the two most common forms of standard Unix archive (backup) files - CPIO and TAR. I use pax A LOT at work, so I'd like to use it at home on my Gentoo box. It is a POSIX standard program, so I was surprised to see that it isn't supported with a Gentoo ebuild. I'd like to request that the version here: http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/contrib/libc6/i386/pax-3.3-4ras.i386.html be used, as it adds support for bzip. I have hacked my own version for RH that is older than this one, and as I'm an F95 hacker...it isn't that good. This version is better. I'm also not sure how to make an ebuild that wouldn't kill my box.
