> So, what's up with this bug? Why is it still open? Should it be closed now?

Because David said he's going to be "more" active last December (2006), his last activity was back in March (2007 - which is three months from now). See [1] and [2] for reference.

I don't have any problem with him being around, but he needs to stick around if he's going to be a Gentoo Developer. From what I can see from ada stuff, there are quite a few bug open which he could work on.</thetext>

> I don't have any problem with him being around,
I definitely have nothing against that too :). I just had an impression that this issue was resolved some time ago and the bug is just lingering behind..
May be we should resolve it with LATER/INVALID or whatever for now?

<thetext>I've been available on IRC ever since I joined Gentoo in '03 and my e-mail has been working pretty much 99.9% of the time. I made it very clear that it would take some time until I would have a good enough internet connection while I was moving. In the meantime I participated in as many online meetings as I could and delegated important bugs to people who were interested in helping out.
The fact that no one ever contacted me either by e-mail or IRC and that I had to find out about my (forced) retirement through bugs.g.o felt a tad bit disrespectful and I kind of lost interest in contributing.

If you still want my help I would consider sticking around but I have not really seen the point in going on contributing if I'm going to be forcibly resigned anyway.</thetext>

Really? This reopening the bug made me think there were some discussions involved - one would expect at least that much. I guess somebody just had a "cleanup urge" at that point. Anyway, thanks for clarification and I am sure glad that you are sticking around David :). I am going to close this bug therefore.

>

It's not about forced retirement. It's about the current way of working. If we think someone is not active we open the developer bug for retirement and give enough time for the person in question to notify that they are still alive.</thetext>

            <thetext>Guess, I'll have to reopen this ...

Dear David,

Possible retirement pending as you haven't shown any activity few months
(according to bugzilla, the last one was 89069: 2007-03-15 20:37:37). If you are
just away, then please use the devaway system. Please be advised that
devaway may also be considered inactive if it extends past 60 days.

Please reply and advise on your situation. Any developer found to be
inactive for a period in excess of 60 days is subject to be retired. Please
be aware that if we have not heard from you within 2 weeks time, we will
begin the retirement process.
If we do retire you, it's pretty easy to come back when you are ready. Just
do the ebuild/end-quiz again and you're back on.

See the mail on -dev (gonna write that once I'm through the bunch).</thetext>
