<thetext>Hi Ryan, please consider turning on the smapi USE flag by default. Users of thinkpads are likely to want this feature on.</thetext>

<thetext>i think by default we should support the largest possible base of laptops, which includes thinkpads that don't have a SMAPI enabled BIOS (or any other non-thinkpad laptop).</thetext>

<thetext>Ah, so the problem would be with USE=smapi pulling in the tp_smapi kernel module by default (and needlessly for the rest of our users), right?

If that is the case and we don't want to imply that "kthinkbat" has (due to its name) a lot to do with Thinkpads (where all >5 years old have a smapi stuff, AFAIK), a WONTFIX is fine with me.</thetext>

            <thetext>5 years hmm.

i'll have to think about it.</thetext>

<thetext>Even more, actually: "This module provides battery information for models produced since 2001 and possibly earlier, and additional features for models produced since 2003."</thetext>
