            <thetext>ruby-glib2 fails to compile if the system has both ruby 1.8 and ruby 1.9 installed.

The exact error is a clear indication of using ruby 1.9 while expecting 1.8 api:

A simple fix is to make the ebuild set USE_RUBY=&quot;ruby18&quot;
