<thetext>Once bug #189725 is taken care of, please carry on stabilizing sci-libs/cblas-reference-20030223-r4. It will be first and safer choice of a new virtual/cblas.

You need to switch to the new reference with "eselect blas set reference". The new autotools patch also include tests such that FEATURES=test should be enough.

<thetext>> Can't do it on alpha, bug 136821

This is related to blas-atlas only, which you don't need for cblas-reference-20030223-r4.
One of the point of stabilizing the latest sci-libs/*-reference packages is to avoid such a dependence. blas-reference will be the default choice for the new style virtual/blas. See bug #189722 for more info.
Before testing cblas-reference, please run "eselect blas set reference". One blocker could be the eselect one (bug #189942).</thetext>

No package 'blas' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables BLAS_CFLAGS
and BLAS_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Hi Stefano,

Re-emerge blas-reference (if you synced recently enough) and you should be fine.
Please open another bug if it persists-
