There are many web sites that work well with 1.5 but don't work with 1.4, some to the point of crashing firefox/firefox-bin. Also, 1.5 is needed for openoffice.org. In bug #78835 one of the reasons for not including a 32-bit 1.5 jre was the imminent AMD64 support of openoffice.org, but 8 months later that's not here yet. I had to do a manual, non-portage install to get 32-bit 1.5, think of how many people have had to do this in the last 8 months! I would prefer to work within Portage, not around it. So, with the new license, we can redistribute cleanly.
