Before submitting an ebuild update, make sure you have a good knowledge of Portage, in particular you
should have read the portage man page ('man portage') and the ebuild man page ('man 5 ebuild').
There's also a lot of documentation on the Gentoo website, take a look at the
Gentoo Developer Handbook,
specifically to the
Ebuild
Howto and to the
Common Ebuild Mistakes.
There's no need to file a bug to announce new versions of widely used software, unless you want to
contribute changes to the ebuild.
Say precisely what you have changed with respect to previous versions of the ebuild. If you have changed
nothing, just say so.
Only attach the differences to the old ebuild, as produced by the command 'diff -u old-ebuild new-ebuild'.
Never attach the ebuild itself, unless it's totally different.
Say in the comment whether you have checked that the dependencies of the new ebuild are still correct, if
blocks of code in the ebuild are still valid, and so on.
Include the name of the ebuild in the Subject, e.g. "package-0.1.2.ebuild (Updated Ebuild)".
