why rpm depens on sys-libs/db-3* 
 
rpm come with its internal db copy and can be disables by --without-db 
but is not. 
 
so i think it makes no sense to depend on db-3*

rpm without db dep, or a IUSE flag to en/disable them

Hi. At last got round to testing this.
You are correct, of course.

Made rpm-4.2-r2.ebuild without this dependancy.
