Fixes a couple of fairly large bugs since -r4.

If possible, please test and mark stable within the next day or so, assuming you are building 2005.1 release media with gentoo-sources 2.6 as a supported kernel. (These issues won't affect livecd usage, but it would be nice to give those offline installations a working desktop kernel after the setup...)

If you aren't using gentoo-sources in release media then the rush is not as great.
