Created an attachment (id=62897) [edit]
proposed patch

please not that the way i did the patch hard links the patchs for 1.37 to 1.38

now in portage ... in the future, there's not much point in filing sep bug
reports for these 3 packages

------- Comment #3 From Jani Averbach 2005-07-14 20:12:40 0000 -------
ss-1.38 and com_err-1.38 are marked as stable on amd64, when
e2fsprogs 1.38 isn't.

emerge -pvuD e2fsprogs

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] sys-libs/com_err-1.38 [1.37] -nls 3,536 kB
[ebuild U ] sys-libs/ss-1.38 [1.37] -nls 0 kB

emerge -pv e2fsprogs

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.37-r1 -nls -static 0 kB

blame seemant for that

------- Comment #5 From Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) 2005-07-16 08:34:32 0000 -------
I really do not see the problem ... e2fsutils might need more testing, as where
ss/lib_com is needed for kerberos to work fine.
