Description Jakub Kocourek 2005-05-29 03:04:37 UTC
I can NOT print using cups. If I use "cat text.txt > /dev/usb/lp0", it works.
But cupsdoprint doesn't work. I emerged cups and all parts of foomatic.
Now I reinstalled foomatic and I CAN print. After reinstall of foomatic, there
is file "foomatic-rip" in /usr/lib/cups/filters. I think, "USE='cups ppds'
emerge foomatic cups hpijs" install foomatic first and then cups installer
delete "filters" dir, where are foomatic files!

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge foomatic and THEN cups
2.
3.

"D [29/May/2005:11:19:49 +0000] [Job 29] /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip:
není souborem ani adresáøem" what is that in english?
Comment 4 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-31 15:58:16 UTC
cups doesn't remove it here
Comment 5 Jakub Kocourek 2005-05-31 23:17:18 UTC
2 Heinrich Wendel: It is "File not found." Foomatic and foomatic-db installed, but
there is no "foomatic-rip" file in cups filters directory.
Comment 6 MickKi 2005-06-22 03:00:34 UTC
Just like mine:
=====================
E [21/Jun/2005:21:17:47 +0000] PID 11262 stopped with status 22!
D [21/Jun/2005:21:17:47 +0000] [Job 18] /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip: No
such file or directory
=====================

PS. I just noticed that the hpijs ebuild says: "* net-print/hpijs is
deprecated, please use net-print/hplip" but hplip is masked:
=====================
 # emerge -pDv hplip

 These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

 Calculating dependencies -
 !!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "hplip" have been masked.
 !!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your
request:
 - net-print/hplip-0.9.3 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
=====================

Comment 7 Tom Hendrikx 2005-09-12 16:30:58 UTC
hello,

same problem exists here when using the hplip-0.9.4 ebuild: after installing the
missing foomatic-rip from foomatic-filters ebuild, printing works again.
Comment 8 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-19 12:43:25 UTC
this could be a hplip problem of overwriting foomatic-filter paths somewhere ..
Comment 9 Marcelo Goes (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-19 14:43:31 UTC
I added foomatic-filters to RDEPEND in hplip-0.9.7-r3. This should pull it in so that /usr/bin/foomatic-rip isn't missing anymore.

Please reopen if you still have any issues.
