I got some issues with the recent upgrade from 1.1.9.3 - The progressbar stays at zero. (I use parallel_bootup=Yes) - fadein workds nice, but the colors are strange - maybe I should switch to another mode. (Not sure if that's related to this upgrade, since I never tested before) Currently using vga=0x317 because vesafb-tng seems to freeze in relation with X on my radon. - dmesg begins to write to my silent screen in the middle of the bootup process. (Never seen before) When I find more time - may be in 2 weeks - I will report more details, if it's not just a quickie Thanks anyway for your cool splash project. It's very promising...
The first two problems are known to me, they are related to 16bpp modes and I've already got them fixed in my source tree. The fixes will of course be included in 1.1.9.5. As for the third problem.. Are these really kernel messages? At which point do they appear (while 'Initilizing the kernel' or 'Booting the system'?) What do the messages say? And, do you have the option 'quiet' on your kernel command line?
Yes, I put quiet as bootoption. You're right, it's not dmesg, but some services output. See my "screenshots" for details: http://n.ethz.ch/student/bettlert/download/gensplash/ And thanks a lot for your work.
Could you please upgrade to 1.1.9.5 and check whether it fixes the problem for you? The first two issues should be gone, and as for the third one -- I'm not sure, but it's definitely worth a try :)
1 and 2 are resolved in 1.1.9.5 right. 3 was syslog-ng logging verbose to tty12 and therefore conflicting with the silent splash screen *(using CONSOLE=/dev/tty1). But I turned now verbose logging off, so there's no conflict anymore.
I right rebooted two more times. It's just that eyecandy with livecd theme. And now mng support might follow... some time in the future spock, it's just great!
Great, I guess we can close the bug now :)
