Also, ibm has released icu veraion 2.2 and it's available at the website  
http://oss.software.ibm.com/icu/

do you still have problems with the updated version in portage?

Thanks for bug report (and suggestion)!

Seemant: I tested the updated ebuild. It seems to build Ok.
I'll wait a few days for David to respond with his testing results and than
close the bug.
