ebuild should remove example line from configs to make is usable without editing?

what the poster suggests is not recommended in the gentoo guidelines anywhere. Editing your configuration files is an essential part of tailoring any application to your own setup, and while it is possible to have generic ones for some applications, equally it is not possible for other applications, nor desirable. In summary I would recommend you read the sample and build your own from it, generally this not only ensures better functioning, but also better understanding of the application itself.

I agree with Benjamin here, fixing as WONTFIX, REOPEN if you feel like.

Along with other improvements, Gentoo clamav installation should now be usable out of the box.
