On my SMP system mplayer-1.0_pre6-r1 needs "-j1" to build otherwise the compile fails are various points through the build.. (It would be nicer to find out WHY the build fails instead of cheating at changing the flags to "-j1" in the ebuild though.)
I have confirmed this. I set MAKEOPTS="-j1" in my make.conf, and it built. won't build under -j2. Maybe it can be hardcoded in the ebuild that we download?
Same problem here, tried to compile with distcc and MAKEOPTS="-j9", compile failed. Recompiled with -j1 and compile finished without errors.

Somebody should take a stab at correcting the Makefile to handle -jNN vs the -j1 hack that was used here.
