The Linux binary for Darwinia is available:
http://www.darwinia.co.uk/support/linux.html

------- Comment #1 From noddy 2005-03-19 07:13:14 0000 -------
Well, I have a working ebuild, but it's semi-complete unfortunately. That is, I
can't determine the Darwinia's license. There is no license mentioned in either
of installers, and some of the pople from Introversion that I've met on the IRC
even claim there is no license at all. The mail to the relevant guys has been
sent and I'll prolly have it nailed down in a few hours.

In the meantime, posting the ebuild for a review. Its handling of CDs is based
on Doom3's.

------- Comment #3 From Karl-Johan Karlsson 2005-03-20 02:49:56 0000 -------
The ebuild in comment #2 works for me on AMD64 as well.

------- Comment #4 From noddy 2005-03-20 08:05:18 0000 -------
OK, here's the update -- Introversion uses absolutely no license at all, on
general principle. They consider their work protected adequately by the
copyright law itself. Which means we can use a dummy piece or an empty string.
Having a "no-license license" seems a bit bogus, so I'd go with LICENSE="".
Makes their intended message come across, too.

Devs, what's your opinion?

cosmetically fixed ebuild

------- Comment #6 From noddy 2005-03-21 14:45:46 0000 -------
Updated update: while Chris (the main designer) claimed there is no license,
Tom, the third guy, sent me one, saying:

"Unfortunately an error in one of the production runs lead to it not being
included with the distribution.
Please include it in your Gentoo dist."

Since the license applies both to Uplink and Darwinia, I guess it should be
"Introversion". Attaching.......

/me out

I just ordered this game... so as soon as I get it in, I'll add this game to
portage

------- Comment #10 From Karl-Johan Karlsson 2005-05-14 01:14:18 0000 -------
Version 1.2.1 has been released at
<URL:http://www.darwinia.co.uk/support/linux.html>.

------- Comment #11 From Daniel Neve 2005-09-09 06:01:56 0000 -------
If it's not too much trouble, may I ask why has there been no progress on
putting the ebuild into portage since march?

Also, If I edited the line:
SRC_URI="http://www.introversion.co.uk/darwinia/downloads/darwinia-full-1.1.2.sh"

to:
SRC_URI="http://www.introversion.co.uk/darwinia/downloads/darwinia-full-1.2.1.sh"
(which is the latest version, and appears to exist on the server, though may be
superceeded by version 1.3.0 in the next month or so) would the ebuild work
without further changes (assuming the .sh file works in the same way)?

I don't know much about ebuilds atm, though I intend to learn in the future, but
in the meantime, feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Basically, I'm the only games developer with a copy of the game (that I am aware
of) and I just haven't had time. There's nothing stopping you from using the
ebuild here, so it isn't exactly a critical thing to get it into portage.

------- Comment #13 From Peter Gantner (a.k.a. nephros) 2005-09-10 02:07:01 0000 -------
In case you want just the demo, here's a modified ebuild which install just
that.

I used ${P}in $SRC_URI so you can more easily bump it to new versions. Would be
a good idea for the other one too.

Regardless of a certain regress on the demo front (i mean #85834, not the
ebuild that somehow got astray and into this bug), here's a new ebuild. This
time with the all-new ${PV} distfile suffix i forgot the last time, so if
Introversion doesn't change the file layout radically, it should be bumpable
just by renaming.

------- Comment #16 From Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) 2005-11-14 07:36:38 0000 -------
Note to self: Newest version is 1.3.0

------- Comment #17 From Daniel Neve 2005-11-14 10:12:03 0000 -------
I was able to install Darwinia 1.3.0 using the ebuild without any troubles.
This
was a fresh install, I didn't have 1.2.1 installed already.
