Description Markus Bertheau (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-22 09:49:34 UTC
gst-plugins depends on
        media-sound/jack-audio-connection-kit
and on
        alsa? ( >=media-libs/alsa-lib-0.9.0_rc2 )

media-sound/jack-audio-connection-kit in turn depends unconditionally on
        >=media-libs/alsa-lib-0.9.0_rc1

do I definitely need alsa?

jack-audio-connection-kit does ...

root@rux0r jack-audio-connection-kit-0.34.0 # ./configure
<stuff>
configure: error: *** JACK currently requires ALSA (0.9.X) which you don't
appear to have
Comment 2 Spider (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-22 16:49:43 UTC
hmm, jack should probably be made a conditional dependency of gst

or, jack's ebuild should have the dependencies set straight to depend on alsa...

*headaches* Ach well, I'm updating gst-plugins and gstreamer right now anyhow :)

I updated yesterday too, -O3 gave me crashes, no -Owhatever didn't crash. And
thomasvs promised to do a gst-player release :)

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93889 has some tips :)
Comment 5 Markus Bertheau (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-23 01:38:29 UTC
Another thing I remember being told yesterday in #gstreamer is, that due to
frequent API changes in avifile the gstreamer devs decided to stick with a
specific version of avifile, the one they distribute on their site
(http://gstreamer.net/media/avifile_0.7.7.20020524-1.tar.gz), other versions
compile fine but don't work - and you won't be able to watch divxe unless you
use that avifile. They said they will switch to ffmpeg, dropping avifile by the
wayside, once some things have been cleared up there (next ffmpeg release).

Good luck
