When someone emerges openafs, a message should be displayed informing the user of the setup guide available from the Gentoo Doc Project [Gentoo Linux OpenAFS Guide (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/openafs.xml)]. This would help new users figure out how to setup openafs on their own. This would also reduce the number of repetitive questions about openafs asked on the forums and irc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
OpenAFS needs a developer to take up maintenance.
Created attachment 70034 [details, diff] openafs-1.4.0_rc.ebuild.patch Okay, I whipped up a couple of additional helpful einfo lines and appended them to the existing ~x86 openafs-1.4.0_rc3 ebuild. The patch containing the new einfo lines is attached.
Great, Will do. The reason this has been waiting for so long is because I first wanted to stabilize the ebuild, and only afterwards update the documentation accordingly. The current documentation is way out of date. At this moment, you can see the first work on this at http://dev.gentoo.org/~stefaan/prerelease/openafs-guide/guide.html. Currently, only the upgrade section is worth checking out. If you feel anything is missing or could be improved, let me know!
Fixed, reference to GDP added as requested. The update for the Gentoo OpenAFS documentation is in the pipeline, see bug #110883.
