xorg-x11 depends on xterm, and xterm depends on utempter. Personnaly, I find it very irritating to have the user count increase by 1 everytime I open a new terminal in my X session. All the more since it is not always decreased by 1 when the term is closed. With some terms, this behaviour can be disabled (aterm etc.), but not with others (konsole, gnome-terminal...) Since xterm builds and works perfectly fine without utempter, the dependency on utempter should be removed, or an utempter USE flag added. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
xterm-200 is headed into portage now, with utempter no longer its dependency. Please test rigorously.
sorry, I'm not going to remove it -- I've been talked back into my senses.
It would be nice to know what the bug is. But xterm's utmp support can always be disabled. That's the -ut option, and utmpInhibit resource.
dobz: can you check with libutempter instead of utempter?
closing, as I've made it depend specifically on libutempter instead of the virtual.
