Sorry, the real bug seems to be in sdl-perl again, #104221.
I get this problem now. re-emerged sdl-perl (making sure it actually compiled, after seeing bug 104221), and I tried re-emerging module-build followed by sdl-perl, but neither made any difference. /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux/SDL/SDL.pm has this line: use SDL_perl; and yet there is a file in the same directory: /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux/SDL/SDL_perl.pm and it just isn't finding it. The @INC it gives is /etc/perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl

So I emerged dev-perl/sdl-perl-1.20.3-r1 and then I was able to emerge frozen-bubble. To me, it seems as if the bug is, that the frozen-bubble ebuild doesn't fail if sdl-perl >= 2 is installed. Hm. Seeing that there is a "sdl-perl-2.patch", I'd say that this patch no longer works. But it gets applied just fine: alexander@blatt /dev/shm/frozen-bubble-1.0.0 $ patch -p0 < /Gentoo/Portage/tree/games-arcade/frozen-bubble/files/frozen-bubble-1.0.0-sdl-perl-2.patch patching file frozen-bubble Hunk #1 succeeded at 87 with fuzz 1 (offset -3 lines). OK, after much mucking about and searching I found the problem. Then I searched the internet to find a reference to it. http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=19155 With recent versions of perl and recent versions of module-build, sdl-perl puts files in: /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux/auto/src/ instead of: /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux/auto/ A patch was posted on that bug yesterday to fix this issue. The patch was posted by mcummings, so I've taken the liberty of adding him to CC (he can remove himself if he likes). I recommend this bug gets reopened, since this build process still isn't working. The patch has its own oddities, which I'm trying to address on the bug it's posted upon.
anyone still having problems with sdl_perl, please emerge sync and give 2.1.3-r2 a poke - has a patch for users of module-build-0.28 (and above)
