I was searching for a way to install and actually boot Gentoo Linux from a USB harddisk (connected via IDE2USB interface) and found information on the internet stating that this would require a certain delay at boot time. The result of my effort was a change to genkernel's linuxrc script using the kernel parameter 'scandelay' to specify the length of that delay. It may not be the best idea to re-use the parameter scandelay for this but the patch could be easily modified to introduce another differently named parameter. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Created attachment 45279 [details] patch for linuxrc adds a user-specified delay after having load the modules using the 'scandelay' parameter. btw: My testing environment is a x86/kernel 2.6/udev system. I don't know about the effects of the removal of the delay after the activation of devfs.
Fixed in 3.1.0e; please reopen this bug if there are any more issues.
