Description Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-20 00:08:47 UTC
I just updated from 2.6.8-gentoo-r10 to 2.6.9-gentoo and noticed that the kernel hangs for about 30 seconds during ide device discovery.

I attached my .config and dmesg output (in which I marked the position where it hangs)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Kernel hangs for 30 seconds.

Expected Results:
Kernel did not do that before.

Portage 2.0.51_rc10 (default-linux/x86/2004.2/gcc34/2.6, gcc-3.4.2,

dmesg

I marked the position where the kernel hangs with a *** ... *** line.
Comment 3 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-20 15:30:10 UTC
Could you please see if this issue exists in development-sources-2.6.9?
Comment 4 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-20 23:42:41 UTC
Yes, the vanilla 2.6.9 kernel has the same problem.
Comment 5 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-21 13:00:28 UTC
Then it appears to be an upstream issue, as opposed to something wrong with our patchset. Could you please open a bug for this at http://bugzilla.kernel.org ?
Thanks. If you get a solution, let me know, and I'll consider patching gentoo-dev-sources
