The first of the NEWS announcements for patch-2.7.0 on http://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=7361 was: --- Support for most features of the "diff --git" format, including renames and copies, permission changes, and symlink diffs. Binary diffs are not supported yet; patch will complain and skip them. --- But I learnd from trying the patch for kernel linux-4.14.10 it does not handle git diff statements int patches for mode execution bit. After an upstream bug report the new patch-2.7.6 has correctly implemented this feature!
2.7.6 is already available in the main tree since 7th Feb. Is this a fast stabling request or something?
Yeah That bug for me on vanilla-sources and someone else on gentoo-sources took some life time ... (but there quickly was a workaround introduced via patchset)
And isn't it funny that bug: The main achievement claimed for the patch-2.7 never recognized not working since 2012 ... an example of how importand tests are ...
