As a mail transfer agent, mail-mta/esmtp should PROVIDE virtual/mta.

I think it must PROVIDE virtual/mta since it blocks any other virtual/mta.

You're right, esmtp should provide this virtual. Fixed in CVS now, should be
hitting mirrors in few hours. Thanks for pointing it out.
