The configuration in /etc/kernel/kernel-xonfig-x86-2.6.7-gentoo-r11 that is created by genkernel 3.0.2c doesn't build the buslogic module (CONFIG_SCSI_BUSLOGIC) by default. This module is needed to run the kernel under VMWare, and thus should probably be built so that at least a kernel booted with doscsi as one of the kernel arguments will boot properly.
