I was looking to this game as it's one of the few packages still relying on the deprecated and dead gnet lib :S

It looks like it still uses it until "net" USE flag... eve for the 0.7.14 version that you will probably want to get bumped :P

would it improve the situation to drop the net use flag?  I suppose gnome-mud should be masked for removal as well if gnet is going away.

Yes, that would help for sure :)

Also, I am not sure if upstream is aware of the issue... I guess they should as gnet is dead for ages, but, who knows :(

games-board/freedoko-0.7.14 is in portage.  for the net-libs/gnet stuff I'd prefer to be the last one out of the pool.  If the other deps go I'll punt it from freedoko from a different bug.
