When I start guvcview, then on the first run I get only black screen instead of video from camera. On the second run the X server crashes and leaves in /var/log/Xorg.log following message

The same error happens in Skype. Interestingly, the Cheese application works with the same camera without any problem.

The problem appeared after update of xorg-server to version 1.17.4.

I suspect there is a driver bug when using Xv or similar.

Try reproducing the problem with media-video/mpv and different video outputs.
Comment 2 Andrei Voropaev 2015-12-26 10:39:08 UTC
Actually, I've already hit the same problem with OpenShot (it crashes xorg on the start) and with mplayer when tried to play .mts video.
Comment 3 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2017-02-23 22:58:12 UTC
ati-drivers is dead, and will not be supported for X.
