Yesterday's update(via webrsync) (and not fixed in today's) has updated gimp from the previous working version [2.8.14-r1:2::gentoo] to the now non-working media-gfx/gimp-2.9.2:2::gentoo which just displays a window with this content and an Ok button after which it exits:

"
GEGL operation missing!

GIMP requires the GEGL operation "gegl:npd".
This operation cannot be found. Check your
GEGL install and ensure it has been compiled
with any dependencies required for GIMP.

                                       [ Ok ]
"

I haven't changed any USE flags since. The update just broke gimp, so to speak.

Reproducible: Always

Hmm this is interesting, it lists two gegl(s):
# emerge --info gegl

media-libs/gegl-0.2.0-r2::gentoo was built with the following:
USE="jpeg png -cairo -debug -ffmpeg -jpeg2k -lensfun -libav -openexr -raw -sdl -svg -umfpack" CPU_FLAGS_X86="mmx sse"

media-libs/gegl-0.3.4::gentoo was built with the following:

gimp has been emitting these GEGL errors to the terminal it was launched in for longer than this, but it hasn't yet been fatal for me.

( GEGL = 0.2.0-r2, Gimp = 2.8.14-r1 )

Will see if I can repro after I upgrade.

Hello Emanuel,

sorry about your troubles with the latest bump of Gimp. It turned out the problem is that (unlike 2.8.16 and earlier) Gimp 2.9.2 introduces a hard dependency on something in GEGL [1] that was optional before and requires USE=cairo with GEGL now [2].

So the fix for your setup should be re-emerging GEGL with cairo enabled.
If the problem keeps occurring, please re-open this bug report.

Hey, no problem! Thank you for your quick and kind handling of the situation, Sebastian! It is working now, with USE=cairo
Much appreciated!

Glad to hear. Thanks for confirming that the patch indeed solved the issue.
