After update 4.8.13 => 4.8.14 subshell (Ctrl-O) in mc has stopped working. Doungrading solves the problem.

If anyone experiences the same, maybe there is a reason to open new bug.

Changing
PROMPT_COMMAND="history -a;$PROMPT_COMMAND"
to
PROMPT_COMMAND="history -a"
fixed it for me.
