No configuration files for samba are installed to the /etc directory, causing users to need to fish around looking for the files.

For example, the default smb.conf sample file for Samba-3 ebuilds:
grep -n smb.conf.default *.ebuild
samba-3.5.21.ebuild:123:        epatch "${CONFDIR}"/smb.conf.default.patch
samba-3.5.21.ebuild:399:        doins ../examples/smb.conf.default
samba-3.5.22.ebuild:123:        epatch "${CONFDIR}"/smb.conf.default.patch
samba-3.5.22.ebuild:399:        doins ../examples/smb.conf.default
samba-3.6.25.ebuild:127:        epatch "${CONFDIR}"/smb.conf.default.patch
samba-3.6.25.ebuild:422:        doins examples/smb.conf.default
