Description George Shapovalov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-06-30 15:14:05 UTC
This bug will keep track of the site creation. Please post (links to or attach) specific contents you would like included here.

Right now all devs who voiced opinion agree on going under desktop.

The url in the header is not functional yet, but is the most likely one to be used before this bug is closed.

Um, sorry, to clarify this for those not reading gentoo-science list, I meant the formal site for Scientific Gentoo Project (e.g. like the one for desktop research: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/research/index.xml)

Well, there is a gentoo-scientific list ? Good to know, it isn't listed on http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/lists.xml ... I'll subscribe asap ! :-)
Comment 3 George Shapovalov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-23 16:27:37 UTC
Ok, as per earlier discussion on gentoo-science the decision is to go under desktop for now, however keep an open eye on possible subprojects or related activities, which might (in the future) warrant either Scientific Gentoo top level or some other more approprite top-level.

I have created a homepage for the project. Since no additional contents was posted here it is pretty basic. Although I linked to the computational Gentoo initiative announcement by Andrew Fant (somewhat edited and "officialized").

docs-team:
Doesn't look like I have write permissions into the proj/ area, so can you please add these two files? New directory should be created:
gentoo/xml/htdocs/proj/en/desktop/science
and these two files should go in it.

2 docs-team:
forgot to mention one other thing. Can somebody on docs-team, who has proper permissions, add gentoo-science mailing list to our listing? The list is up for almost half a year, and it is still not mentioned.

Ok, looks like in order to get some action I need to reassign the bug to docs-team, which is just what I am doing...

docs-team doesn't have commit access to [gentoo]/xml/htdocs/proj, only to [gentoo]/xml/htdocs/doc. I have however added the gentoo-science mailinglist to the listing;

To commit the project files, someone of the desktop team with commit access to [gentoo]/xml/htdocs/proj/en/desktop should take control...
Comment 9 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-30 14:50:31 UTC
I'd rather have George get his own commit access there.
Comment 10 George Shapovalov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-30 15:11:34 UTC
Yea, I was about to say the same, missed you by just 10 min :).

Sorry, did not know this. dev.g.o and cvs.g.o are now different servers and not being an infra person I have no way of checking the ownership. However this approach makes a lot of sense (and I was going to ask for something like that anyway if it weren't this way :)).

So, desktop team:
Now that we formalized Scientific Gentoo project under Desktop project, can we please have our space created under gentoo/xml/htdocs/proj/en/desktop/ as described above? And get access to it?
How the ownership is organized on those pages? Does the whole herd have access or just the lead and co-lead (if exists)?

Actually Donnie: you are the lead of desktop project, you should be able to do this ;). Or whom I should ask?

CC'ing CVS admins -- can one of you set George up with whatever access he needs to get the sci pages into proj/en/desktop/ please? If you feel it's necessary, restrict access to desktop/sci/ -- otherwise just give access to desktop/.

George, why don't you decide which sci people should have access.
Comment 12 George Shapovalov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-30 15:35:26 UTC
I think we need a co-lead or at leas one more person able to commit for the situations when we need an update but I am away or something.. I'll discuss this on gentoo-scientific and give the name(s) to infra team, but for now I would like to at least get this started.

I added george to the cvsdesktop-group, so that he can open a new directory and commit there.

Removing CVS-Admins from Cc.
Comment 14 George Shapovalov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-30 18:12:41 UTC
Thanks!
I added the pages, closing the bug.
Is www.gentoo.org autosinced with cvs or do I need to ask somebody to push new stuff?

Syncs once an hour, as I recall (maybe once a half-hour?). Anyway, it's automatic.
