Created attachment 406598 [details] BSB chart file (map of Pacific atoll) for testing purposes libbsb was added to the portage tree 4 years ago, and has never been stabilised. It works for me on my amd64 system, which is otherwise primarily stable (non-testing) packages. This package contains 5 utilities for converting BSB cartographic map files to png and tiff (and reverse operations). This is a small package which only take a moment to install, then you can test it for yourself on the attached map with: bsb2png NZtestChart.KAP output.png It should produce a nice map of a Pacific Atoll. The test file is freely downloadable as part of a big zip file from http://www.linz.govt.nz/sea/charts/nzmariner-official-raster-navigational-charts-rncs Many thanks for your help.
