So can we have scribus-1.4.4/scribus/plugins/tools/2geomtools/lib2geom compiled with -fPIC?

The buildsystem currently shows this:

# We need to pass -fPIC only to lib2geom on amd64 - avoid it elsewhere see:
IF (ARCH_X86_64 EQUAL 1)
  SET(CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS} -fPIC")
ENDIF (ARCH_X86_64 EQUAL 1)

Comment 7 Craig Bradney 2015-05-18 20:18:08 UTC
Hi

I've committed https://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app-office/scribus/files/scribus-1.4.4-ppc64-fpic.patch?view=markup to 1.4.6.svn.

Do we need to change anything in 1.5.0.svn? We're days or hours from release so I can still patch something.

scribus/third_party/lib2geom/ is where the CMakeLists.txt file exists in 1.5.0..

ping me mrb@scribus.info if you want me to commit a patch.

thanks
Craig

Not a cmake expert here, so it's more of a question, but wouldn't something like http://www.cmake.org/Wiki/CMake/Tutorials/Object_Library work better than those arch checking '-fPIC' appends ?

Generally yes, but the lib is linked into scribus as archive. Now we need to compile it with fPIC in case scribus itself is build non-static.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole point of that 'OBJECT' option such that instead of adding a lib, you're adding $<TARGET_OBJECTS:libfoo> ?
What exactly 'scribus itself is build non-static' is supposed to mean ? You're talking about an executable, not a library, right ?
